School Inspections
All schools in Scotland are subject to inspection by Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Education (HMIE) which, each year, inspects and reports on the quality of education in pre-school centres, primary schools, secondary schools, special schools, community learning and development services, colleges, and residential educational provision. They also inspect the education functions of local authorities and carry out joint inspections of services for children.
While Catholic schools are involved in these inspections on the same basis as non-denominational schools, inspectors will anticipate that the Catholic school will reflect its own nature and context in its self-evaluation. In this way, the distinctive nature of the Cathlic school should be evident in how it articulates its specific values, vision, identity and ethos, all grounded in its mission as a community of faith and learning.
