In Nomine Patris: a poem by S5 pupil Daniel Gallagher

  • 22/09/2010

This poem was written by Daniel Gallagher of S5 in John Ogilvie High School, Hamilton as a reflection on his experiences of the visit by Pope Benedict XVI to the UK.  It captures the spirit of an assembly of the faithful, gathered before the Successor of St Peter, In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

A procession of purity.

Pilgrims in awe of Peter’s proxy

Protected intimacy extends a hand.

Silence embraces the multitude-

Paragons of possibility.

In nomine patris

Failings considered, resolve truly pledged

Banded to offer thanks and regret

First, food for thought:

Contemplation,reflection

Judgement between self and Saviour,

Honour for a reforged Covenant.

Et filii

Food for the soul:

Humility, sacrifice;

Triumph and salvation!

Et Spiritus Sancti

Prayers of the ages, songs of the day:

Timeless love, eternal faith

Living God taken home

By all.

Amen
