Welcome the Pope to Scotland
- 26/05/2010
- Categorized in: Papal Visit News

The Bishops of Scotland are keen to provide an opportunity for children and young people to enjoy a unique once-in-a-lifetime experience by being among the first to greet the Holy Father when he is travelling through Edinburgh on the morning of Thursday 16th September.
On the feast day of St Ninian, this event provides a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the story of Ninian and the foundations of Christianity in Scotland. The characters of the great Scottish saints will be celebrated in a St Ninian's Day Papal Pageant which will parade along Princess Street just before the Pope's motorcade travels through the streets of Edinburgh.
There should be a joyful atmosphere throughout this event which will feature in news broadcasts around the world. It provides a great opportunity for young people to offer their own particular welcome to Pope Benedict as he spends his first day in the UK, and before he travels to Glasgow for the celebration of Mass later that day.

We are children from St Ninian's Primary school in Hamilton, SLC, and we are very interested in participating in the papal visit, because he is coming on our patron saint's day. We would really love it if we could take part in the special mass in Glasgow, this would help us celebrate our school's special day even more. Our school is very enteprising and we would take part in any way you would want us to. We are all really excited and happy about the Pope visiting, he could even visit our school if he wanted to! We would like to show him our new school as a VIP tour... he could even have a look at our beautiful St Ninian's stained glass window which we all designed for our school. It is lovely and he would like it very much! Thank you for reading our e-mail because we know you are very busy. Thank you!

The Saint Ninian's Children's Enterprise Team!
Dear St Ninian's Children's Enterprise Team,
Thanks for posting this very interesting comment. It's great to read of your excitment about the Pope's visit. While I'm not sure that he will have time to visit your school, I hope that a letter which has been sent to your Head Teacher has brought good news of how you might be involved in welcoming the Holy Father to Scotland. God bless you.
