Resources for the Papal Visit

- Categorized in: Papal Visit News

On 16th March 2010, the Queen confirmed the State visit of Pope Benedict XVI to Scotland and England from 16th to 19th September 2010. The Papal Visit is an historic event for Britain and all those involved in Catholic Education.
Further details about the visit will be released in coming weeks. For now it appears that there may be a number of ways in which young people in schools and parishes might be able to prepare for, and participate in, the various events in Scotland and England during these four days in September. We shall keep schools informed of these opportunities as information comes to us. We also hope to provide some resources for use in schools.
Please refer to the SCES website and also to the Papal Visit website to keep in touch.
PowerPoint presentations for schools
To help you to start on your preparations, we are providing, courtesy of the Cathoic Education Service of England & Wales, two PowerPoint presentations for primary and secondary schools. We hope that these will be of use in assemblies and/or class lessons and that they may stimulate future activity in schools and parishes. NB These may take a little time to download to your own computer.

The Catholic Union of Great Britain has launched a CATHOLIC YOUNG WRITER AWARD to mark the Papal visit. Students at Catholic secondary schools are invited to write essays or poems inspired by the life and message of John Henry Newman, who is to be beatified by the Pope. Information at this website: http://www.catholicunion.org.uk/
We hope for lots of entries! There is plenty of literary talent among our young people - now is a chance to show it!
Thank you for this resource which will provide a useful prompt for our young people to start preparing for the Papal visit. It is particularly important that the school (St Benedict's High School in Linwood) makes the most of this unique opportunity.
