Referring to an announcement that Glasgow City Council had lost its appeal against the judgement of an Employment Tribunal in favour of Mr D McNab, Michael McGrath, Director of the Scottish Catholic Education Service, made the following statement: "The Catholic Church was not a party to the proceedings of this Employment Tribunal. However, we note that the Appeal judgement makes it clear that the Church requires to be satisfied as to the suitability of the “religious belief and character” of any teacher appointed to any post in a Catholic school."
