Developing as a teacher

CPDIt is expected that, beyond the initial stages of qualification, teachers will continue to develop their knowledge, skills and professional capacities throughout their careers.  Indeed, this is recognised in contractual arrangements which require all teachers to commit 35 hours per session to Continuing Professional Development (CPD), activities appropriate to their own contexts.

The Catholic Education Commission has recognised the needs of teachers in Catholic schools by developing the Faith and Teaching framework which supports teachers in their self-evaluation.  This enables teachers to consider how they can develop their capacity to contribute to the school's faith mission.

stargazer4Each year SCES publishes a Faith & Teaching CPD Catalogue which provides details of relevant CPD courses provided across Scotland by a range of providers: SCES, Diocesan R.E. Advisors and others.  While most courses are specified to take place at particular times and in particular locations, others are available to be provided flexibly by arrangement.

SCES ensures that all these courses are registered on National Register of CPD Providers. This ensures that all CPD courses and materials offered under SCES auspices can be counted towards the 35 hours required CPD activity each session.

Details of these CPD opportuniites can be found on this website.
