The Catholic Church in Scotland encourages schools, parishes and other agencies to work closely together in order to celebrate the distinctive purpose of Catholic education during one particular week each year.  The purpose of Catholic Education Week is to highlight the significance of education, not only for young people but for society as a whole.  Students, parents, teachers and others are asked to reflect on their own roles in the education process -  at home, in school, in the local parish and in other educational settings.

SCES provides support materials for schools and parishes to assist them in their own plans to draw attention to the added value which Catholic schools bring across Scotland. Promotional events, liturgical celebrations, particular classroom lessons and school activities will be encouraged in schools and parishes.

Catholic Education Week 2012

Sunday 12th to Saturday 18th February 2012

(NB. Due to school holidays in some areas, these dates may be varied locally, by agreement with schools and parishes.)

Theme: "This is our Faith."  

This year's theme is taken from the Catholic Rite of Baptism: "This is our faith.  This is the faith of the Church. We are proud to profess it in Christ Jesus our Lord."  It is also the title of the Church's new Religious Education Syllabus. It is intended to encourage pupils, teachers, parents and clergy to focus on the profession of faith which is promoted in homes, schools and parishes.

Resources have been developed to support schools and parishes in their attempts to highlight the importance of this theme.  School resources are being provided to schools on a CD and also on the SCES RESOURCES section of this website.  Other resources are being mailed out to parishes and can be downloaded from the attachments below.
